You can call (301) 953-2014 or email support@blackiceaudio.com Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm EST. Once issued, an RMA is valid for 10 calendar days. Pack the item exactly as it arrived in the original packaging with all accessories and manuals, attach the return label, and drop it off at any official UPS location. Return credits are typically issued within 7-10 business days of receipt and inspection.

Yes. Black Ice Audio ships to Hawaii, Alaska, Canada, Puerto Rico, and internationally. International orders are subject to applicable customs, tariffs, duties, and VAT - these are the customer's responsibility and are not included in shipping charges. Note the damage with the delivery driver at the time of delivery and sign the receipt as "Damaged." Open all packages within 24 hours of receipt and contact Black Ice Audio immediately at support@blackiceaudio.com or (301) 953-2014. They will arrange an exchange and a UPS pickup of the damaged unit. Keeping original packaging is essential for filing a shipping claim.

Black Ice Audio sells direct to consumer only. Any purchase not made through blackiceaudio.com will receive no warranty and no support from Black Ice Audio.

All Black Ice Audio products purchased directly from blackiceaudio.com after June 1, 2022 include a 5-year warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. Products purchased before that date The warranty is non-transferable and applies to the original purchaser only. Phone support is also extended to the original purchaser only.

Black Ice Audio tube warranties vary by type, all subject to a 1,000-hour limit whichever comes first:

Defective tubes must be returned in original packaging. The customer pays shipping to Black Ice Audio; BIA covers return shipping once the tube is confirmed defective.

The warranty does not cover: damage from improper installation, accident, neglect, or environmental causes; damage from failure to follow the owner's manual; repairs performed by anyone not authorized by Black Ice Audio; units with altered or removed serial numbers; damage during customer-arranged shipping; units modified in design or construction; incompatible tubes installed; tubes operated at incorrect voltages; tubes that have been dropped, broken, or misused; or second-hand purchases (warranty is non-transferable). Demo units carry only the remaining warranty balance from their in-service date.

The customer pays shipping to Black Ice Audio. Black Ice Audio covers return shipping on verified warranty repairs for the first 6 months after delivery. Original packaging (all foam, inner box, and outer box) must be used - shipping claims and warranty coverage depend on it. Save your packaging.

International customers receive free replacement parts for the warranty term, but labor coverage applies to the US only. International customers may ship their unit to the Maryland facility for full warranty repair coverage, but are responsible for all shipping arrangements, costs, and any applicable taxes, duties, or import fees in both directions.

Yes. Sustainability is one of Black Ice Audio's four core design principles. The company will service and repair Black Ice Audio equipment for as long as parts can be sourced - including legacy Jolida gear. They will provide parts, information, or support to any customer or repair center trying to keep their products making music. Black Ice Audio does not want its gear in a landfill.

All three are integrated tube amplifiers built on the proprietary Odyssey Circuit with Exact Bias. The F35 is the most powerful, with full-size Hafler output transformers and XLR balanced inputs included. The F22 is more compact - to achieve the smaller footprint, the output transformers were reduced (lowering peak RMS output) and XLR inputs were omitted. The F11 is the entry point in the Fusion integrated line. All three can drive difficult speakers, including those at 89dB sensitivity. Dual (stereo) subwoofer outputs are available as an option on the F35 and can be selected directly on the product page at checkout.

Yes. All Black Ice Audio amplifiers - including the entry-level FX10 - have sufficient power to drive difficult speakers. The Odyssey Circuit and Hafler output transformers give Black Ice amplifiers bass performance that competes with solid state. There can be exceptions depending on room size and speaker configuration. When in doubt, call (301) 953-2014 before purchasing.

For Klipsch speakers, Black Ice Audio recommends EL84, 6550, or KT88 tubes. EL34 tubes can be too revealing with Klipsch's high-efficiency designs for some listeners, though some users pair them successfully. Tube rolling is personal - Black Ice Audio's 30-day return policy gives you time to experiment at home before committing.

Black Ice Audio designs its DACs for maximum accuracy. Asynchronous DACs that upsample or downsample alter the original digital signal, which introduces inaccuracies in playback. Black Ice DACs pass the source signal through without resampling, resulting in more faithful reproduction of the original recording. This is also why the DAC's mute relay may click if it receives an incompatible sample rate from the source - it is not a malfunction, it is the DAC refusing to alter the signal.

Yes. Black Ice Audio products can be switched to 220/240V for international customers. Contact the team before ordering to confirm your unit is configured for the correct voltage.

The Fusion line (F11, F22, F35) already operates in Class A triode mode at low volumes and transitions to Class AB push-pull at higher volumes automatically through the Odyssey Circuit. Adding a manual switch to disable the pentode side at high volumes was tested and found to introduce unwanted artifacts in some cases and artificially limit performance. Additionally, a switch controlling high voltage is another potential failure point. Black Ice Audio chose performance integrity over marketing appeal. Note: the FX10H uses only the triode side of the EL84 and is single-ended Class A only.

Black Ice Audio F Series amplifiers include several exclusive technologies:

Odyssey Circuit - fully balanced differential push-pull Class AB design with only 2 gain stages and 4.5dB negative feedback. Found in all F Series amplifiers.

Exact Bias - senses current in the bias path without altering it, allowing precise bias without introducing distortion. Found in all F Series amplifiers.

Soft Start - delays full voltage to tubes and transformers until a safe threshold is reached, extending tube life. Found in F Series amplifiers.

Protection Circuit - monitors current and shuts the amplifier off if a voltage spike is detected from a bad tube or surge. Found in F Series amplifiers.

Dimension Pro - phase circuit that adjusts soundstage width to compensate for room acoustics and speaker placement. Found in FOZ SSX and F360 Preamplifier.

Crosstalk Reduction - provides up to 48dB of channel separation improvement and electronic azimuth correction. Found in F159 Phono Stage and FOZ XTR.

360 Space Matrix - adds rear channel speakers to increase front stage depth and envelopment. Found in F360 Preamplifier only.

Logic Display - visualizes in-phase and out-of-phase content in real time to help tune the Dimension Pro. Found in F360 Preamplifier only.

Tube amplifiers produce a naturally warm, musical sound with even-order harmonic distortion that the human ear perceives as pleasing rather than harsh. The hard, brittle edge of many solid-state designs is a sharp contrast to the rich, liquid, three-dimensional presentation of a well-designed tube amplifier. Tube midrange and treble are smooth and silky, with crystal-clear definition. Black Ice Audio's Odyssey Circuit closes the traditional gap in bass performance - their Fusion amplifiers match and surpass solid-state bass response. Legendary producer Alan Parsons (Beatles, Pink Floyd) put it simply: guitars invariably sound better with tube amplification.

Black Ice Audio amplifiers are very gentle on tubes. Power tubes typically last 7–8 years with a few hours of daily use. Signal (preamp) tubes like the 12AX7 can last 15–20 years. Checking bias periodically is the main maintenance requirement. Tubes are not a significant ongoing cost.

Yes. There is a noticeable improvement after approximately 1,000 hours of burn-in time as tubes settle into their optimal operating point. Black Ice Audio burns in every unit before shipping, but the tubes will continue to improve with use. Use your amplifier regularly - it genuinely sounds better the more it is played.

Tube rolling is swapping compatible tubes of different brands or types to change the sonic character of your amplifier. Different manufacturers' versions of the same tube type can sound meaningfully different. For example, JJ tubes tend toward a tight bottom end and crisp tone; Shuguang tubes are rolled off with a lush midrange; Psvane tubes are clear with tight bass; NewSensor brands (Electro Harmonix, Tung Sol, Sovtek, Genalex) offer a thick, high-gain sound with differences between brands.

A few rules to roll safely: Always power off and unplug the amplifier before changing tubes. Allow 30 minutes for tubes to cool completely. Re-bias after any power tube change - follow the instructions in the bias guide in the support section of the website. Keep old tubes as a test pair for future diagnostics.

It is best practice to wait at least 10 minutes after powering off before restarting. The Protection Circuit cannot fully protect hot tubes from a voltage spike during a rapid restart. The Soft Start system also needs time to fully discharge before being effective again. If you accidentally restart quickly, the amplifier and tubes should be fine - but making a habit of waiting is worthwhile.

Auto-bias circuits have been used in tube amplifier design for over 40 years, but they work by placing series resistors in the bias path that reduce power within a pre-set range - and this reduction introduces distortion into the signal. Exact Bias simply senses the current level in the bias path without altering it, allowing the user to set the optimal bias point for their specific tubes with no power reduction and no added distortion. The small effort required to bias manually is worth the meaningful improvement in performance.

After switching on the rear power switch, activate the amplifier by touching the logo in the center of the front faceplate. The illuminated logo is the standby/on touch control. If the rear switch is on but the tubes are not glowing, tap the logo.

No. Occasional ticking, creaking, or other minor mechanical sounds are completely normal in tube amplifiers. These are caused by the natural thermal expansion and contraction of the tube plates and chassis as they heat up and cool down. No action is required.

No. The FX10H is a Class A tube amplifier and the entire chassis acts as a heatsink by design. Running warm is normal and expected for this model. Allow adequate ventilation around the unit.

The most common cause is a poor connection at the gold socket pins in a tube socket, often caused by tube rolling or inserting tubes at an angle. Power off, unplug, and wait 30 minutes for tubes to cool completely. Carefully remove tubes one at a time and inspect the pin-to-socket contact. If any pins appear loose, gently compress the socket pin holes together using a small pick or jeweler's screwdriver to restore proper contact. Re-bias after reinsertion. Small fluctuations of 1–4 mA are normal and are usually caused by changes in household electrical load. Never check bias while music or a signal is playing - the changing signal voltage will cause the meter to swing and give inaccurate readings.

If one tube jumps more than 4 mA with no signal playing, the tube is likely weak or failing and should be replaced. If all four tubes are unstable, disconnect all sources from the amplifier, plug it into a dedicated outlet, and turn off other devices on the same circuit. If instability continues after that, contact Black Ice Audio.

The appearance of the blown fuse gives important diagnostic information:

Clear glass with broken filament - likely a bad tube, power surge, or voltage spike. Replace the fuse and suspect tube.

Smoky or black glass - likely a very bad tube or a failing capacitor. Inspect tubes carefully before replacing the fuse.

Silver glass with liquified filament - likely a bad diode/bridge rectifier, bad power transformer, or bad output transformer. Contact Black Ice Audio - do not simply replace the fuse without professional inspection.

Red plating occurs when the tube's anode (plate) glows red in addition to the normal filament glow. It means too much power is flowing through the tube - usually caused by incorrect bias settings or a failing tube. Power the amplifier off immediately. If one tube is red plating, replacing that tube may resolve the issue. If multiple tubes are red plating after a bias adjustment, have a qualified technician inspect the amplifier. Not necessarily. The clicking sound is the mute relay engaging and disengaging because the source is sending a digital signal format that is not compatible with the DAC chip. Because Black Ice Audio DACs do not upsample or downsample by design, they are sensitive to the incoming sample rate. Check that your source device is sending a compatible format and sample rate. This is a known issue caused by Apple security updates. To fix: disconnect the DAC from AirPlay on your iPhone or iPad first. Then power off the DAC and wait at least 1 minute before powering it back on. When reconnecting, manually check-mark your iPhone/iPad under AirPlay before selecting the DAC. If you skip this step, the DAC may not appear or may show no sound.

Key signs of a failed or failing tube:

Filament not glowing - the tube is not receiving current or has failed internally.
White getter - the silver coating at the top of the tube has turned white, meaning air has entered the vacuum. The tube is finished.
Red plating - the plate is glowing red. Too much current. Power off immediately.
Sudden increase in noise, crackling, or distortion - often one tube nearing end of life.
Drop in volume in one channel - swap tubes between channels to see if the problem follows a specific tube.
Microphonics - gently tap each tube with a pen while the amplifier is playing. A loud noise through the speakers points to the microphonic tube.

Vishay Naked Z Foil Resistors (starting at $800) - dramatically lower the noise floor and improve detail, definition, transparency, and accuracy.

Wells DC Filtration (starting at $600) - formerly the ByBee Rail; significantly decreases noise and increases air and spaciousness in the soundstage.

Single-crystal internal wire (starting at $400) - replaces standard internal wire with ultra high-grade single-crystal signal wire, adding weight, dynamics, pace, and transparency.

WBT speaker posts and Cardas input jacks (starting at $700) - blocks RF interference and lowers the noise floor, increasing separation and air.

Upgrades can be combined. Total packages range from $500 to $8,000 depending on model and scope. Round-trip shipping is included in all quotes.

Upgrades typically take 5–10 business days not including shipping transit time. Parts are ordered when the upgrade is booked - once the parts arrive, Black Ice Audio sends you a shipping label so you can continue using your gear until it's time to send it in. Upgrades carry warranty coverage for the the remainder of your original warranty period.

No. All upgrades and upgraded gear are final sale with no return eligibility. This applies whether the upgrades are ordered on new gear before shipping or performed on gear sent in by a customer. The parts cannot be reused once installed. Black Ice Audio will do their best to guide your upgrade choices, but does not guarantee sonic outcomes. This is why they strongly recommend waiting at least 45 days after purchase before ordering upgrades - to ensure you know the base character of the gear and can be properly guided.

Yes. Black Ice Audio is the original U.S.-based Jolida Inc., founded in Maryland in 1983 by Mike and Hansen. The same team that designed and built every award-winning Jolida amplifier continues to operate as Black Ice Audio today from Brookeville, Maryland. The name changed - the people, expertise, and commitment to quality did not.

A Chinese manufacturing partner that had been assisting with production stole Jolida's intellectual property and began producing counterfeit Jolida amplifiers and clones. The original team was forced to rebrand as Black Ice Audio and redesign all circuits from the ground up. That manufacturer has since moved on to producing amplifiers under additional brand names. Any "new Jolida" product sold today was not designed or built by the original Jolida team.

1983 - Mike and Hansen found Jolida Inc. in Maryland as a vacuum tube distribution company. The name combines their mothers' names: Jo (Hansen's mother) and Lida (Mike's mother).

1984 - Jolida wins a contract to build a silicon steel transformer, a new transformer type that would later inspire their audio amplifiers.

1992 - Mike and Hansen build the first Jolida amplifier circuit.

1995 - The Jolida SJ302A debuts at the Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show and wins two Engineering Design and Innovation Awards from the Electronic Industrial Association.

1997 - Hansen passes away.

2005 - Jerred Dunkerson joins the Jolida team. EZ Bias introduced.

2007 - A Chinese company steals Jolida's IP and trademark. Jolida sues and wins in a Chinese court. The same company then brings a US lawsuit.

2010 - Jolida and Jim Fosgate collaborate for the first time.

2012 - Jolida settles the US lawsuit, agreeing to discontinue new products under the Jolida trademark.

2013 - Jerred Dunkerson takes control of US and China operations.

2017 - Black Ice Audio brand launches with circuits designed by Jim Fosgate. Jerred becomes CEO.

2018 - First Black Ice Audio products become available to the public.

2022 - Jaime DeMarco joins Jerred as a partner in Black Ice Audio.

Hansen and Mike are the sole designers of all circuits and aesthetics behind the original award-winning Jolida equipment. Jolida never rebranded OEM designs - every product was an original in-house creation. The current Black Ice Audio Fusion line is designed by Jim Fosgate (renowned for his surround sound innovations) and Jerred Dunkerson.

Black Ice Audio has not produced gear under the Jolida name since 2017–2018. Any product listed as a new Jolida amplifier today was not designed or built by the original Jolida team. A Jolida Audio website that has appeared online is a Chinese company using the original Jolida logo with no affiliation to Black Ice Audio. No. The Fusion line shares nothing internally with legacy Jolida amplifiers beyond the "Fusion" name. The circuits, transformers, topology, and sonic character are fundamentally different. Key technical differences include: the Fusion line is fully balanced with 2 gain stages vs. Jolida's single-ended 3 gain stages; negative feedback is just 4.5dB vs. approximately 12dB in Jolida; and the Fusion line uses Hafler-design output transformers rather than Jolida's proprietary transformers. The result is a meaningfully lower noise floor, better dynamics, and superior overall performance.

Yes. Black Ice Audio offers in-house repair and diagnostics for all legacy Jolida gear at their Maryland workshop. Due to the nature of legacy products, support is repair-only - no phone or email troubleshooting guidance is available for Jolida gear. There is a non-refundable $185 diagnostic fee, billed after diagnosis. If you proceed with the repair, that fee is applied to the final balance. Repairs take at least 10 business days from receipt. Yes. Registered owners of any legacy Jolida amplifier are eligible for a substantial discount when trading in toward a new Black Ice Audio Fusion model - even if the Jolida amplifier is broken or non-functional.
