We have spent the last five years refining and testing our gear with different components and making slight changes to the circuits so we know exactly how they will change the sonic signature of our gear. This research now allows us to tune the upgrades to each of our customers’ specific tastes.
Upgrades can be mixed and matched, we will help you during your consultation.
Black Ice Audio Upgrades.

Changing the stock Black Ice Audio Caps to Hi End Capacitors of different types(oil/wax/alu/etc.)
Adds transparency, weight, detail, an inky black background, more information in each note, better separation, and a more holographic image.
We may suggest different options based on preferences and budget. Of course, we can source anything, so if you have a specific capacitor in mind let us know. Starting at $600 depending on number and type.

Vishay Naked Z Foil Resistors
Improves detail, definition, transparency, and accuracy. The resistors drastically lower the noise floor of the amplifier. Starting at $800 depending on gear and number.

Wells Audio DC Filtration(formerly The ByBee Rail). They offer a very significant decrease in noise and increased air in the holographic image. Starting at $600

Replacing the standard internal wire with ultra high grade signal wire. The wire is single crystal and adds weight but maintains smooth highs. The wire also increases the dynamics, pace, and transparency of the music. Starting at $400 depending on gear and number of item rewired.

WBT Speaker Post and Cardas Input Jacks. Blocks RF and lowers the noise floor which increases separation and air. Starting at $700 depending on type.

Important for New Black Ice Audio Customers.
We strongly recommend that you purchase and get to know your new Black Ice gear for at least 45 days so we more easily can guide you in upgrade suggestions. We all hear differently, so it’s very important that you have a feel for the base characteristics of our gear so we can properly guide you and fine-tune the sound for your personal taste.
Time and Cost.
Upgrades are available on all Black Ice Audio and vintage Jolida Gear. Prices range from $500 to $8000 per unit depending on the model, component market price, and the extent of the work. We will build a custom package based on your budget. We can help you get the most for your money by suggesting the parts that will make the biggest impact in tuning the gear for your sonic preferences.
The upgrades will have a Warranty for the remainder of your Warranty Period. If there is a problem we will warranty it as long as it’s still within your original warranty period.
Round-trip shipping is always included in the quote.
Upgrades usually take about 5-10 business days. (this does not include shipping transit time)
Parts are ordered once the upgrade is booked. When the parts arrive we will send you a shipping label for your gear. You can continue to enjoy your gear and not be affected by any delay caused by waiting for custom ordered parts.
To be Crystal Clear about upgrades on new gear there are No Returns on upgraded Black Audio Gear. New Black Ice Audio gear that is upgraded before shipping is Final Sale. There is NO 45 Day return on upgraded gear at all, it’s considered custom. Upgrades on customer gear is also Final Sale. We have to pay for the parts and time in the upgrade(the parts can’t be reused once installed). We do our best to help with choosing upgrades but do not guarantee the choices made when ordering the upgrades.
